Funds for environmental restoration help to reclaim land that has been destroyed by human activity such as landfills, mining or deforestation. Funds are also needed for the "greening" of abandoned property in urban areas such as vacated housing units or old railroad yards. Polluted waterways can have their wildlife and clarity restored through collaborations with state and local business leaders.
Funds for environmental preservation save wilderness land from development and protect native species of wildlife both here and abroad. Many of our nations state and national parks were previously owned by private citizens who donated their property to preserve it. Organizations such as the Nature Conservancy and the Trust for Public Land are leading examples of preservation organizations.
